The Paradise procedure is performed by doctors nationwide. These doctors are typically interventional cardiologists, interventional radiologists, or vascular surgeons.

Needing a referral depends on the hospital or medical facility policies in your area or your insurance policy. In most cases, a referral isn’t needed.

The Paradise procedure may be covered by commercial insurance, military insurance, Medicaid, and Managed Medicaid with pre-approval on a case-by-case basis. If your hospital doesn’t have an insurance team and your doctor is partnering with our Patient Access Program, we can help navigate and support your insurance pre-approval process for the Paradise procedure.
Before your insurance provider covers certain treatments, they may require your doctor to get approval first. This pre-approval is called Prior Authorization.
Prior Authorization helps your insurance provider confirm that a treatment is medically necessary for you and is covered by your plan. Your doctor’s hospital will support you through the insurance pre-approval process. If your hospital doesn’t have an insurance team and your doctor is partnering with our Patient Access Program, we can help navigate and support your insurance coverage process for the Paradise procedure.
Typically, the pre-approval process doesn’t require any action from you besides signing a few forms and confirming your doctor has your insurance information. Also, the pre-approval process does not cost you anything.
After your eligibility is confirmed, your doctor will submit your information to the Recor Patient Access Program. Our insurance specialists will submit your request to your insurance provider and work directly with your doctor. Typically, the pre-approval process doesn’t require any action from you besides signing a few forms and confirming your doctor has your insurance information. Also, the pre-approval process does not cost you anything
If you’re approved, your doctor will contact you to schedule your Paradise procedure. This process typically takes 15-30 business days.
The out-of-pocket cost will depend on your insurance plan and hospital. Your doctor and insurance provider can answer any specific out-of-pocket cost questions and can provide a more accurate cost estimate.
Typically, you can expect to pay the cost of any unmet deductible for the year, along with any copay or coinsurance fee that your plan requires for a procedure. Different plans can result in different out-of-pocket expenses.
For your Paradise procedure consultation, typically you can expect to pay your regular copay cost for a specialist visit.

You and your doctor will discuss your hypertension history, your experience with previous treatments, and the characteristics of your hypertension. Together, you will both decide if the Paradise procedure is right for you.
You may need other imaging and testing, verification of insurance coverage benefits, or insurance pre-approval before deciding next steps.
Your doctor will walk you through what you can expect before, during, and after the procedure. Your consultation is your time to ask your doctor any questions you may have. Your consultation will not include the procedure itself.
You will typically need to bring many of the same things you would bring to any other doctor’s appointment like your insurance card and government-issued ID/driver’s license. Your hospital will be able to provide guidance on what you will need to bring.

Non-emergency medical transport services are offered by some insurance plans to provide transportation to doctor appointments for people who can’t use private or public transportation. If you need help with transportation, you can call your insurance provider to see if they offer this benefit.
No, the consultation doesn’t include the procedure itself.
If you and your doctor decide the Paradise procedure is right for you, your doctor will provide the next steps. Next steps could include routine blood work, imaging, and any other work up that is needed. You may also need insurance pre-approval.
Once your work up and insurance pre-approval (if needed) is complete, your doctor will schedule you for your Paradise procedure.
The Paradise procedure is relatively quick. The average overall procedure time is about an hour, which includes preparation time.
The typical standard of care for getting the Paradise procedure requires only one small incision near your groin (less than 3mm or 1/8 inch) and doesn’t involve any stitches – usually only a bandage is needed after.
Your doctor will typically give you pain medication and moderate sedation to keep you comfortable. You may experience mild, short, and temporary pain or discomfort during or after the procedure. To help you feel comfortable as you recover, your care team may give you pain medication.
Usually a few days after the procedure, most people don’t experience any procedural pain or discomfort. Before your procedure, your hospital care team will talk with you about your specific pain management and sedation plan.
The Paradise procedure is typically outpatient.
Your care team at the hospital will provide more information about how long you can expect to stay after your procedure.
To keep you comfortable during the procedure, typically your doctor will use a moderate sedation method like twilight sedation.
Each doctor manages sedation or anesthesia differently in their practice and before your procedure, your care team at the hospital will talk with you about your specific sedation plan.
No, the Paradise procedure is not an implant.
Once the Paradise® catheter (a small flexible tube) delivers the treatment, it is removed without leaving anything inside the body.
Typically, the recovery period is short and most people are able to return to their usual activities within a few days after the Paradise procedure.
Your care team at the hospital will talk with you about when you can resume your day-to-day activities.
After the procedure, your doctor will continue to monitor your hypertension and will provide guidance on if you can change your blood pressure medications.
The Paradise procedure is designed to be a one-time procedure. In both of our 3-year follow-up studies, people maintained significantly lower blood pressure compared to before they got the Paradise procedure. This means the Paradise procedure can deliver long-term results.6-7
